Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are looking for a Drafter to support The Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). In this role, you will work with the Engineering Service, Projects Section Reporting ultimately to the Chief of Projects & Construction Management. You will support and assist the Contracted Temporary Staff Architect to develop deadlines, overall objectives, resources available and tasks necessary to complete the work. You will assist the Contracted Temporary Staff Architect with site documentation of campus buildings and all utilities into AutoCAD, Revit and ZLink format.

This is contingent upon the award of the contract. Project duration is expected to be one base year plus three option years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Contracted Architect and VA Architect to create and execute appropriate drafting services, including plans, reflected ceiling plans, and elevations in AutoCAD, Revit and other visual software including ZLink.
  • Perform administrative or professional work involving supporting documentation management, administration and supporting services related to the operation and safety of Federal facilities.
  • Prepare detailed AutoCAD and Revit designs, plans, sketches, perspectives, color schemes and visual aids for proposed design presentations.
  • Analyze and review architectural drawings, develop AutoCAD and Revit Furniture, Fixture & Equipment (FF&E) plan layers, and ensure concurrence to VA’s Technical Information Library (TIL), standards and specifications.
  • Maintain drawings, plans, project binders, and assist in the management and updates of all drawing documentation in AutoCAD, Revit format and ZLink.
  • Perform administrative duties such as administering day-in-the-life scenarios, move plans, creating schedules and attending project meetings.
  • Review and identify incomplete or inaccurate drawings, coordinate with the contracted Architect, and document resolutions.
  • Document completed moves or minor construction changes and coordinate with Interior Design staff and contracted movers in AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Follow Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standard (ABAAS), VA Barrier Free Design Guide, VA Technical Information Library (TIL), International Code Council (ICC), Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), International Fire Code (IFC), Life Safety.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering Drafting or a directly related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ Commercial Drafting experience.
  • Must have the knowledge of healthcare design and the understanding of fire codes, life safety codes, building codes, barrier free design, systems, compose cleaning and maintenance concepts, ergonomics and safety criteria.
  • Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications, requiring comprehension of detailed characteristics of item being designed and association with accepted design practices.
  • Skilled in free form drawing and drawing to scale when on a job site measuring for a project.
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification is preferred.
  • Proficient in both AutoCAD and Revit, preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
