Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are looking for a General Engineer to support The Long Beach Veterans Affairs Healthcare System (LBVAHCS). In this role, you will support complex engineering development, planning, and project execution activities. You will determine project requirements, conduct site investigations, prepare designs, specifications, and cost estimates, and apply advanced engineering principles to solve diverse and complex technical challenges..

This is contingent upon the award of the contract. Project duration is expected to be one base year plus three option years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determines requirements, reconnaissance, location, and prepares designs, specifications and estimates.
  • Applies broad knowledge methods, precedents, and standards to significantly diverse and intense work complexities.
  • Performs or directs surveys and investigations to establish baseline data necessary to initiate design.
  • Evaluates baseline data and incorporates salient factors into design considerations and solutions.
  • Evaluates design objectives, performs complex technical calculations, identifies most economical and efficient procedures for project design and performance.
  • Provide professional advice to peers, subordinates or non-professional administrators or managers and review or direct the review of plans, specifications, and analyses of designs.
  • Performs scheduling and layout of operations, and inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.
  • Prepares detailed cost estimates, correspondence, technical reports, fact sheets, status reports and schedules.
  • Reviews and evaluates shop drawings, samples and materials certifications submitted by contractor. Develop in-house designs, providing drawings, specifications, detailed cost estimates and other construction documents.
  • Establishes design criteria for AE firms and prepares AE scope of work.
  • Oversee, direct, review, approve and/or reject AE design deliverables.
  • Implements and monitors OSHA goals for Life Safety Management, health and the environment procedures.
  • Implements and monitors Emergency Preparedness plan, security policies/procedures, compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and other requirements.
  • Demonstrates infection control practices for disease prevention.
  • Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering or a directly related field.
  • Minimum seven years professional experience
  • Must be familiar with patient Centered Care Culture in healthcare
  • Must have knowledge of healthcare design and understanding of fire codes, building codes, barrier free codes, system, components, cleaning and maintenance concepts, ergonomics and safety criteria
  • Must have the ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications
  • Preferred certification as a Professional Engineer
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access& Outlook) is required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and Revit, preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
