Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

 

The Data Protection Officer will serve as the company’s authorized signatory and official data privacy representative, ensuring compliance with data protection laws and internal privacy policies. This role is critical in safeguarding personal and sensitive data, mitigating risks, and fostering a culture of privacy awareness. As a part-time position, the DPO will provide strategic guidance and operational support while maintaining flexibility with organizational needs.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as the authorized signatory and designated data privacy representative of the company in dealings with regulators, auditors, and external stakeholders
  • Develop, implement, and maintain privacy policies and procedures in line with applicable laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, local data protection regulations)
  • Monitor compliance with data protection requirements across departments
  • Conduct regular privacy impact assessments and risk evaluations
  • Serve as the primary contact for data subjects, regulators, and internal stakeholders regarding privacy concerns
  • Provide training and awareness programs to staff on data protection best practices
  • Advise on data processing activities, contracts, and third-party vendor compliance
  • Investigate and respond to data breaches, including reporting obligations
  • Maintain records of processing activities and ensure documentation is up to date
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field
  • Proven experience in data protection, compliance, or information security
  • Strong knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant privacy regulations
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a part-time capacity
  • Must be a Certified Deputy Protection Officer
  • Preferably with cyber security background
