Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are seeking a Lead Architect who will be responsible for leading all architectural design activities across infrastructure projects, including design briefs, conceptual design, design development, and preparation of working drawings. You will provide strong technical leadership to ensure designs meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the successful delivery of complex, multi-sector infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the architectural design process, from concept development through detailed design and construction documentation.
  • Prepare and review design briefs, conceptual designs, design development outputs, and working drawings.
  • Ensure architectural designs comply with local regulations, codes, and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate architectural inputs with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Review designs to ensure alignment with project objectives, budgets, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Support implementation of works under complex quality and safety management plans.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications to be successful in the role: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture with a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree in architecture with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience in architectural design development and design review for infrastructure projects, including: Housing, Healthcare facilities, Institutional buildings, Critical infrastructure.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience serving in a Lead Architect role.
  • Extensive experience supporting or overseeing implementation of works under complex quality and safety plans.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Certification authorizing architectural practice for CC2 or CC3 category buildings/structures.
  • Strong architectural design leadership and coordination skills
  • Excellent understanding of building regulations and compliance requirements
  • Ability to manage complex design processes and multidisciplinary teams.
